Azumi Setoda

Experience refined slow living at Azumi Setoda, by Aman founder Adrian Zecha.’s intimate ryokan on the Seto Inland Sea.

Set in the 140-year-old former home of prominent local family Horiuchi, on Ikuchijima island—a region famed for its still blue waters, seafood, citrus fruits, and horizon dotted with island silhouettes.

The result is a boutique ryokan with many perfectly executed elements — minimalist interiors, exposed beams, clean lines, low-rise furniture, pale wood and washi paper, huge glass panes revealing views of a peaceful courtyard garden.

Just opposite is the Yubune, the property’s sento, or bathhouse, and saunas, where locals and guests can soak and steam beneath colorful island-inspired tile artworks by Mai Miyake.

Dining is an ode to the Horiuchi family heritage, with French-inspired dishes served on heirloom tableware passed down through generations. Chef Kenya Akita keeps it local, using ingredients sourced within a 50-kilometre radius of the Setouchi region.
